Does Your Client Really Care About SEO?
One of the most frustrating things in SEO is a successful ranking effort for a customer who isn’t ready or is unwilling to accept their new success, unless it does falls into theor entrenched “brick and mortar” mindset.
The most common of these scenarios is the service provider who gets all kinds of new traffic and prospects during a successful SEO campaign but are so stuck on their current way of doing things that they’ll turn away one customer after another.
Typically, these clients see eCommerce as a me-too response to the radio, television, or print media, not as a new way of life.
“I’m getting more traffic and inquiries and they want the service but not the way I want it sent. I need all my clients to take a certain path, my process, these people want to hire me immediately.”
Instead, these proprietors should be looking for alternatives for the 21st century or to look at ways compatible with the reality of business in this day and age.
That’s one of my clients recently. They offer massage therapy in a certain region that is both geographically and keyword competitive.
To me the answer is clear. Don’t seek success in digital marketing unless you are ready to change your ways to a digital age way. If you’re saying “no” to more than a few prospects surely you are doing something wrong.
Despite the new traffic and opportunities, with an entrenched business mindset, some clients still feel happy with some good ranking keywords and to refuse an onslaught of new business prospects my service has brought them. It just doesn’t make this SEO very happy.
“You have to do it our way” has never been part of a successful business plan. The reverse is usually the reality. Those who change are the one who succeeds. Internet Darwinism, I suppose.
